What an enticing and peculiar first round it’s been, and it’s only half over! In the recent week, we have seen handshakes aplenty, and are still waiting for eight more teams to go through the lines. Yesterday’s games brought two more teams into the second round, and set the stage for a game seven match up between the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins.
Sunday both the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers joined the St Louis Blues and Nashville Predators in the conference semi-finals. While the match-up between the St Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings has been set (given the fact that St Louis is the highest seed left in the Western conference, while the Kings are the lowest) the teams the Predators and Flyers will face are still yet to be determined.
Tonight, both the Chicago Blackhawks (vs. Phoenix Coyotes) and New York Rangers (vs. Ottawa Senators) fight off elimination as they both enter game six of their respective series.
Game six of the Coyotes-Blackhawks series will take place in Chicago as the home team tries to stay alive. With each game in the series so far going into overtime, it will be interesting to see if game six will fall along the same lines. Antoine Vermette of the Coyotes leads the series in both goals (3) and points (4). Tonight’s game will be aired on CNBC at 6 PST.
Game six of the Senators-Rangers series will take place back in Ottawa while the Senators try to finish off the series with their third straight win. Both Carl Hagelin and Daniel Alfredsson are set to return for tonight’s game which will air at 4 PST on NBCSN. Brian Boyle leads in goals (3) while Jason Spezza has a series high of 4 points.
Currently:
Claude Giroux leads the post-season in goals (6), assists (8), points (14), and plus-minus (6).
I encourage all of you to read this article featured on NHL.com!
My favorite pictures from last night’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Some teams have white and black-outs, but you just can’t be that wave of orange. Flyers fan or not.
The Montreal Canadiens defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2, leaving Stamkos empty handed with only one game left to reach the 60 goal mark.
Johan Franzen scored two goals in the Wings shoot out win over the St Louis Blues Wednesday night. The final score was 3-2 after the Wings were down 2-0 in the third period.
I want scores, gwg, all the good stuff. There is enough of you, should be interesting.
Both teams may already be out of the race for a playoff spot, but watch as Stamkos vies to reach 60 goals this season.
Although both teams have secured a playoff spot, the Blues will be fighting for the Western Conference’s first seed, while the Red Wings are trying to secure home ice. Catch the game tonight at 7:30ET on NBCSN
So many games to be watched this week! Be sure to tune, for many of the games have playoff implications.
